Soke Newton James

Soke Newton James is the Grand Master of Bas-I Kyokushin International, a dedicated martial Artist promoting the values of discipline, respect, and physical fitness through the art of Kyokushin Karate.
He began his martial arts career in 1968 in Kyokushinkai karate at the YMCA in Jamaica, being one of the first karate practitioners in the country. Over the next few years, Ihe represented Jamaica and the Kyokushin Martial Arts style all over the world. Most notably, he led the Jamaica full-contact fighting team in 1975 at the World Tournament in Japan. In 1976 he was invited by Kaicho Nakamura, Grandmaster of Seido Karate to teach karate in the city of New York City, USA.
In April 2008, he was recognized for his involvement and excellence in the Martial Arts and was Inducted into The World Martial Arts Hall of Fame. He was also formally recognized by the Jamaican Ambassador for his leadership in the martial arts in the Jamaican community.
We are excited to announce the upcoming full-contact Kyokushin Tournament, a full-contact karate tournament that will take place in October at UTECH in Kingston, Jamaica.
This event will bring together over 200 competitors from 10 countries, showcasing the highest level of skill, determination, and sportsmanship in Kyokushin Karate. The tournament will also attract over 1000 spectators, including families, martial arts enthusiasts, and local media, providing an excellent opportunity for sponsors to gain visibility and connect with a diverse audience.

Soke James hoped this event attract Martial Artists not only from Kyokushin and other Martial Arts styles to compete in a competition of love, techniques, and skill. OSU!
