
GENERAL NOTES
The purpose of this page is to outline the rules for Bas-i Kyokushin full-contact karate tournament. While every effort will be made to cover all situations that may arise during the competition, some aspects will not be covered, and these will be addressed by the tournament organizer, chief referee, and/or arbitrator of the event as they arise.
It is the responsibility of the competitor and the competitor’s instructor/coach to ensure the competitor is fit and ready for the rigors of full-contact karate competition.
FULL CONTACT KARATE COMPETITION RULES
Full contact is reserved for competitors aged 18 years and over.
Rules
Prohibited strikes:
No punches to the face, no open-hand strikes, and no kicks to the groin, knees, or back. No elbow strikes to the head, only the body.
Legal strikes:
Punches to the body are allowed. All kicks to the face/head, body, thighs, and inside/outside calf are legal.
Sweeps*: Allowed, but you must have Kime. Points will be awarded once a punch is delivered to the opponent before he goes down to the ground.
Warnings
The following actions may merit a warning at the discretion of the contest referee. However, if too frequent or excessive, these may lead to penalties at the referee’s discretion.
- Frequently retreating from or out of the contest area or moves that waste time.
- Pushing the opponent with the open hand.
- Persistent bad behaviour or violence.
- Faking injury to illegal targets
- Grabbing the opponent’s gi as a means of attack OR defense.
Point sparring rules and scoring systems for competitors whenever this division is available.
Points are awarded based on the difficulty and type of technique landed, as in normal karate tournaments:
- 1 Point: Any standard punch, back fist, or ridge hand strike to a valid target.
- 1 Point: A basic kick to the body.
- 2 Points: A kick to the head.
- 2 Points: A jump kick to the body.
- 3 Points: A jump kick to the head.
